Madeleine Balcom, B.A.

Madeleine Balcom, B.A. is a Vermont rostered clinical mental health counselor and a master’s degree candidate in clinical mental health counseling at Northern Vermont University (formerly Johnson State College). She is fulfilling the internship requirement of her program under the supervision of Dr. Judith Markey and Cindy Abry LCMHC, RPT-S with an anticipated graduation date of 2019.

Madeleine creates a safe environment for adults, children (age 3+), and their families to work on healthy emotional development in the context of relationships at home, school, and in the community. She offers a practical approach to foster emotional regulation in daily life.

Madeleine brings a unique combination of early childhood development and mental health expertise to her practice and has previously worked with children and their families in a therapeutic capacity at Northeast Kingdom Human Services. She has also lead group work incorporating mindfulness, yoga, self-care, and assertiveness practice for children and adults.

Her present clinical interests include mindfulness, mind-body connection, a felt sense of emotion, increasing cognitive flexibility, developmental trauma delay, modalities of trauma regulation, and training in trauma treatment in the classroom setting. She works with adults to empower them to be in control of positive choices and life directions.

Madeleine loves living in the Northeast Kingdom with her husband, three children, and great Pyrenees puppy. A yoga practitioner and teacher, she enjoys hiking, swimming, and gardening and is learning to mountain bike and ski a little faster.
